What is Heat Exchanger Calculation

The amount transferred during physical or chemical changed is measured through heat exchanger calculations. Scientists use a device to measure the amount of transferred heat. This device is called calorimeter and used during experiments that determine heat transfers. Heat exchangers are device built to effectively transfer heat from one container to another. The media can either be separated or may be in direct contact with one another.

Where to Use Heat Exchanger Calculation

Heat exchanger calculations are used in space heating, air conditioning and refrigeration, power plants and chemical plants. It is also used in petrochemical plants, sewage treatment and anywhere else requiring heat transfer determined by calculating the amount of energy needed. A classic example of where these calculations are used is the internal combustion engine where the coolant flows through the coil allowing incoming air to get heated. In different industries, calculations are used to determine the heat transferred. Heat exchangers are used to cool both small and large scale process in different industries. These industries include waste water treatment, refrigeration systems, wine-brewery industry and the petroleum industry. As long as an industrial process takes place in industries, the need for calculation of heat transfers is also present.

Formula for Heat Exchanger Calculation

You already know that heat exchanger calculation is used to determine the amount of heating transferred through a medium to another medium. The formula used to measure heat transfer is: mass x change in temperature x specific heat= amount of heat transferred. Symbols used for this equation are written as: q = m(DT)Cp where q=heat transfer, DT=the change in temperature and CP for specific heat. This formula is used mostly in industrial processes no matter how big or small the industry is. Engineers are responsible in calculating heat exchanger calculations. It is essential to know how to solve using the formula to be able to achieve precise and concise results.

Types of Heat Exchanger derived from Heat Exchanger Calculation

BY using the formula provided for calculating heat exchanger, numerous results can be obtained. Common types of heat formula include exchanger flows including even flow, counter flow, and cross flow. For parallel flows, the same direction is taken by both fluids taking the same direction. For counter flows, the heat moves in a different direction. In counter flow, both fluids flow in different directions. This type of heat formula is helpful especially for those individuals who are in the industrial processing division.
