Types Of Siding Materials

Siding Installation

There are many types of siding materials available today. It can be very hard to choose which one is best for your home or business. Not only does the appearance matter, but you need to take into consideration the environment where you live and how that will affect the siding. The following are a few of the most well-known types.

Vinyl siding has definitely become the most popular choice. It is one of the most inexpensive and low maintenance choices out there. No painting is ever needed with vinyl siding, and many brands will come with up to a 50 year warranty. It can be found in a wide range of colors in a horizontal lap style, shingle siding, and soffits.

Fiber cement siding is made with compacted layers of cement and fibers. It is extremely heavy. One must use care when cutting it because of the silica dust and the related health concerns. It is well liked for being flame retardant. Fiber cement sidings are pre primed and ready to paint. A few brands may even be pre painted as well.

Cedar siding and Redwood siding are popular for their rustic look. Cedar is made from Cedar trees and does cost more than other types of siding materials. It usually is pre primed or stained. Cedar Shake is not. When weathered it will turn a silver color. This is common along salt water beaches. Redwood is close, but it has a slightly different look.

Composite siding is a manufactured wood product made from wood discs, sawdust, wood wafers, or wood chips. It is not considered a very good option.

Metal siding such as steel and aluminum lap siding is not as typical as it once was. Vinyl siding has taken its place. The corrugated version is still most often used on pole barns, barns, garages, and shops.

Rock siding has the look of rocks or stones. Actual rock can be used, but the synthetic version costs less. This type of siding is found on the front of buildings and homes as an accent.<

Stucco siding has the appearance of a flat concrete. It is composed of sand, cement, and lime. It is applied while wet. It creates a very durable surface for exteriors.

A little research on the types of siding materials and siding tools on the market will help you decide which will be best for your situation.
